Spontaneous reduction of intussusception in gastric bypass patient: A case report and review of literature

چکیده
With worsening obesity epidemic, it has become an international health issue increasing not only morbidity and mortality, but also health care costs while decreasing the quality of life in general. Bariatric surgery has become a significant treatment for morbid obesity and patients with obesity who suffers from multiple medical comorbidities. Among the risks that bariatric surgery carries, intussusception is a rare long-term complication that may occur with gastric bypass, mostly described in case reports and small-scale retrospective study. These reported cases required operative reduction. Reports of spontaneous reduction are rarely reported. We present a patient who had laparoscopic roux-en-y gastric bypass and presented with intussusception that spontaneous resolved within 24 hours. Diagnostic laparoscopy confirmed evidence of resolved intussusception and no further operative intervention was necessary. Bariatric surgeons should be vigilant of intussusception as a longterm complication, and may consider non-operative conservative management under certain presentation. Correspondence to: Stephani C. متن کاملSpontaneous Resolution of Symptomatic Thoracic Spine Calcified Disc Herniation: A Case Report and Literature Review
Calcification of intervertebral disc (IVD) is an uncommon but well-defined clinical syndrome in children. Despite its benign nature, occasionally, calcified nucleus pulposus can herniate into the spinal canal. We report an interesting case of calcified disc herniation in the thoracic spine. Although it resulted in cord compression and syrinx formation, it well responded to conservative manageme...

متن کاملIntussusception as a complication of bariatric surgery in pregnant patients: report of one case and revision of the literature
Occlusive complications after a laparoscopic Roux-in Y gastric bypass (LRYGB), appear mainly as fibrous membranes of wounds, internal hernias or intussusception. Intussusception after a bariatric surgery occurs in 0.1-0.3% of the cases. We present a case of intussusception in a pregnant patient after a LRYGB.
